John Martinez was born in Albuquerque New Mexico, even before his arrival to this world John’s parents were meeting for the first time in his fathers music store in Illinois as his mother came in to sign up for guitar lessons, from her soon to be husband. 5th grade started John’s interest in music with his introduction to the trumpet, feeling comfortable with it after 2 years, 7th grade he switched to baritone. At 17 John’s father taught him some guitar chords; he quickly pursued playing to the tunes of Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. A few more years down the road John decided that the likes of Primus and Rush were calling his name but this time as a bass player, finding that a bassist was more sought after than the flock of guitarists that were his friends, picking up the heaviness of Metallica and heavier bands he played with various projects with friends in the Albuquerque area. In 1998 he moved to Dallas and has played in a couple of not so serious projects before setting his sites on VENTT. John’s Bass skills speak for themselves, all by the thump he brings to the stage every time it’s time to VENTT.
Influences: Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Primus, Metallica, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Disturbed, System of a Down, and many others, including many local bands in Texas/New Mexico.
